Amazing House, Amazing Hospitality

"We stayed at the House of 1833 with a large group of 13 (four different families) for the weekend. Renting out this house was a great decision compared to staying in a hotel. The hospitality of Evan and Robert is simply unmatched. We had a lovely tour of the property upon arrival and from there, Evan and Robert were always available and accommodating (including with various extra bed requests), but never intrusive.

Breakfasts both days were leisurely and delicious. The house has a lovely garden area with plenty of outdoor seating. Evan and Robert were excellent at proactively accommodating dietary restrictions and requests.

Perhaps the most wonderfully surprising aspect was how child-friendly an experience this was. We admittedly booked with a little bit of trepidation after looking at the photos online and worried that our kids (ages 9 and 6) would break something. But Evan and Robert were so welcoming of the kids that they put us (mostly) at ease. And, as they predicted, the kids (total of six of them, ages ranging from 6-14, some of whom stayed in their own rooms) did just fine, and loved the rooms, food and outdoor spaces.

The rooms were all great and have their own quirks, furnishings and features. Our family was particularly fond of the Veranda, Cupola and Peach rooms.

One of the highlights is definitely the pool area, which is secluded, surrounded by trees (and somehow magically virtually bug-free). There is a grill, lots of seating, and various "floaty" toys (including a large inflatable raft/boat with paddles!). We all (including a couple of other families) just hung out there from afternoon to evening. Again, Evan and Robert were happy to assist with anything we needed.

Can't say enough great things about this property. We hope to return!"

Wonderful Property & Unparalleled Hospitality

"My wife and I had an unexpected change of plans and we wanted a quick get away to celebrate our wedding anniversary since we would not be travelling to our original destination as planned. Finding accomodations in CT during the summer is difficult at best and we were very fortunate to have stumbled upon this gem last minute. The House of 1833 is exquisite and takes you on a journey back in time. The hosts, Robert and Evan, are masters at their craft, both in their culinary and hospitality skills and go above and beyond to make your stay a wonderful experience. Our room was immaculate and beautifully appointed with period antiques and art and our hosts gladly shared the fascinating history of the house and grounds with a littany of interesting stories. The plantings are beautiful with many exotic and non-indigenous species that attract a variety of birds, which probably accounts for the lack of mosquitoes on the grounds. The large pool was secluded and private and we enjoyed sharing it with the other guests. We felt like it was our private oasis as it was so tranquil. The breakfasts are culinary marvels made from scratch with local products and are served directly to you in the dining area by the hosts. We actually had our breakfast in the garden watching humming birds fly in our midst. The property is a quick 10 minute ride to historic Mystic with many fine dining options and Evan can provide all the information you need about the area and its happenings. We had such a wonderful time that we booked the Labor Day Weekend before we left and cannot wait to return in 10 days to see Robert, Evan and of course Dixie!"
